BLUEBIRD CAFE - CONISTON

The 'Bluebird' cafe is situated on the shore of Coniston Water in the Cumbrian Lake District. Originally, the building was installed by the Furness Railway Company in about 1860 as accommodation for the crew of the S. Y, Gondola, an attraction which operated on the Lake in Victorian days.

Subsequently, and as frequented by Donald Campbell and Tonia Berne during his speed record attempts, the proprietors; Phil and Judith Dixon adapted the name and have built up their Café business from about 1982.

Named after Donald Campbell's boat, Bluebird K7. The Bluebird Café by the Lake is situated on the shore of Coniston Water in the Cumbrian Lake District. Proprietors Phil and Judith Dixon have run the café business since 1982.

Close by is the Coniston Boating Centre, from where you may hire boats, the Coniston Launch and the National Trust's S.Y Gondola which sails daily on the Lake.  You may enjoy spectacular views of the Brantwood Estate and Grizedale Forest from the shores of the lake or from either of these venues which look across the lake over the east side.

There is a wide range of Campbell and Bluebird memorabilia to be found at the café and on their website, for which we have provided links below.  Also on offer is a selection of good food and beverages including a beers and wines.
