Bluebird K3 hydroplane
Having exceeded 300mph on land Malcolm Campbell decided to concentrate his efforts on breaking the water speed record. To this end Sir Malcolm commissioned the build of a two step hydroplane. Naturally, this was fitted with a Rolls Royce Merlin engine, much as his Bluebird cars.
The K3 is the only surviving Bluebird boat. It was rescued from oblivion by Paul Faulkes-Halbard in the early 1980's and now resides at the Filching Manor Motor Museum near Polegate in East Sussex, where works to fully restore her are ongoing. Contact Karl Faulkes-Halbard for details.
He set new records four times in succession in his boats Bluebird K3 & K4. These records were as follows :

Malcolm Campbell died after a long illness in 1949 and was succeeded by his son Donald who continued the record breaking tradition, breaking setting several turbine powered water records in Bluebird K7 before the fateful crash in which he died on Coniston Water in January 1967.
